Brunch is one of those things in life that’s just blissfully perfect. It’s a flawless combination of breakfast food and sleeping in, and we don’t think it gets much better than that.
Although brunch is a favourite weekend activity for many, it can be hard to find the perfect spot to enjoy your mid-morning meal. Well, you’re in for a treat, because brunch, is something that White Rock does well, like really well! Here are a few of our favourite weekend brunch spots:
Wooden Spoon Co.
Wooden Spoon Co. is a favourite among locals and visitors alike. Its rustic shabby chic look is undoubtedly Instagrammable, and the mouthwatering one-of-a-kind dishes will keep you coming back time and again. Their menu includes a variety of Eggs Benedicts, breakfast sandwiches, “Spoon Hashes”, and the most decadent stuff french toast. With outstanding service, a prime uptown location, and unique twists on the traditional brunch Wooden Spoon is a must-try brunch spot. (15171 Russell Avenue)
Uli’s Restaurant
Serving White Rock locals and visitors for over 30 years, brunch at Uli’s is a must-eat. With sweeping views of the pier and a menu full of delicious west-coast meals inspired by founder, Ulrich Blume’s travels, brunch at Uli’s is a great way to start the day. The service is warm and the food is local, fresh and made in-house. Favourites include the Cured Salmon Benedict featuring house-cured salmon and a lemon chive aioli, and the Chorizo Hash. The Wafflers
If your breakfast tastes run more on the sweet side, then The Wafflers is the joint for you, though there are savoury options as well! Choose how you like your waffle: light & crispy (Brussels style) or soft & chewy (Liege style), and then get ready to load it up! For breakfast, we recommend the Tooty Fruity – a delicious combination of blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, banana and real whipped cream, or the Bantella – bananas and Nutella. But if you’re feeling adventurous, and calories are not a concern, check out the Bonfire – graham crackers, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, vanilla ice cream and real whipped cream! Islands Cafe
Doesn’t everyone need a little “island time” in their life? Islands Cafe has got you covered. The owners wanted to bring the tastes that they loved from Hawaii to White Rock and they 100% deliver. Order a signature Acai Bowl or Poke Bowl. With the freshest ingredients and amazing flavour combinations, you can’t go wrong. And, you can feel good about your choice as both bowls pack a healthy, nutritional punch! But is it breakfast without a breakfast sandwich? Try Islands Cafe’s delicious homage to a favourite breakfast sandwich from their days in Hawaii. Complete your breakfast with a smooth cup of Kona coffee or choose one of their signature drinks like the Haupia Macchiato. Haupia is a traditional coconut milk-based Hawaiian dessert and they’ve taken that taste and made it into a to-die for macchiato! (1237 Johnston Road)
Grounds and Greens Cafe
Eggs tend to be the star of brunch, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Head to Grounds and Greens and discover the yumminess of a vegan brunch. We recommend their Greens Toastie, which features pea & edamame hummus, tomato jam, avocado, crispy chickpeas, pickled red onions and tofu feta. Pair it with a mimosa for the ultimate bubbly brunch. Or dig into the O.G. a bowl of coconut yogurt, homemade granola, banana, fruit compote and coconut flakes. And don’t forget your coffee. Treat yourself to a Cold Foam Queen! An iced vanilla americano topped with a decadent coconut milk salted caramel cold foam or the No Capp, a blended coffee topped with whipped buckwheat milk. (1369 Johnston Road)
Cafe 8
All-day breakfast is on the menu at Uptown’s Cafe 8. This unassuming family-run cafe serves classic breakfast items like eggs benedict, omelettes, pancakes and basic bacon and eggs in a simple, cosy environment. Service is fast and friendly, the coffee is hot and the food is tasty … what more could one ask for in a brunch spot? (1490 Johnston Road)
Five Corners Cafe
A White Rock institution and locals’ favourite, Five Corners Cafe is one of the last of its kind … a true 50s diner. As White Rock’s oldest restaurant, it has changed names and owners, but not much else! One thing that has remained the same is the warm welcome and delicious homecooked food. Serving all-day breakfast and lunch, free coffee refills and the best milkshakes in town the Five Corners Cafe is open daily from 8:30am to 2:00pm. And a tip for our visitors – the diner is cash only and they don’t take reservations!

Verandah Cafe by the Beach
How about brunch with an Indian twist? Inspired by the rich and flavourful culinary heritage of the Indian subcontinent, the meals at Verandah Cafe are creative and delicious. In keeping with their Indian roots, we suggest the Parantha – a flaky, layered flat bread – with scrambled egg bhurji, which is essentially scrambled eggs packed with Indian flavours. Or try their Bombay Masala Toast – a grilled sandwich with your choice of fillings which include Butter chicken, Falafel or Chilli Paneer. Their baked goods are divine, and don’t forget to order a Masala Chai to accompany your brunch! (15782 Marine Drive)
