Rainy days have a magical way of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. While many see gray skies and drizzle as a reason to stay indoors, there’s something enchanting about venturing out and discovering the hidden gems of a destination. And what better place to do so than in the charming seaside town of White Rock?
Don’t let a little rain get you down! If you find yourself in White Rock on a rainy day, there is still lots to see and do. Here are some of our favourite ways to fill a rainy day (or any day) in White Rock:
Although brunch is a favourite weekend (or weekday) activity for many, it can be hard to find the perfect spot to enjoy your mid-morning meal. Well you’re in for a treat, because brunch is something that White Rock does well, like really well! Favourite spots include Wooden Spoon Co., Grounds & Greens Cafe, Islands Cafe, Morrison Cafe and Verandah Cafe by the Beach.
Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you can’t visit the beach! After all, a rainy day at the beach is always better than a sunny day in the office. Rainy days at White Rocks beaches are often the most fun, and definitely less crowded. So slip on those rain boots and a waterproof jacket, grab an umbrella and hit the sand. Keep your eyes peeled for marine birds, seals and the occasional whale!
Take advantage of the rain and take in a little culture at an art gallery. White Ro ck’s galleries showcase local talent as well as pieces from Canadian and international artisans. For a young, edgy aesthetic and monthly exhibitions ranging from solo to group shows, head to Nomad Gallery, while the White Rock Gallery, one of the largest in Metro Vancouver, is home to an elegant collection of artwork from Canadian artists. Also in uptown White Rock, the Landmark Pop-UpTown Gallery hosts monthly rotating art shows, featuring visual and functional arts. Along White Rock’s waterfront, check out the Golden Cactus Studio and Gallery, home to artists Chris MacClure and Marilyn Hurst.
Ever wondered how White Rock came to be? Stop by the White Rock Museum and learn all about the history of White Rock and our iconic landmarks. Pop in and check out the current exhibit, they change throughout the year, and don’t forget to check out the museum’s gift shop while you’re there! Admission is by donation.
From vintage clothing to unique household items, each visit promises a journey through time and style, and it’s the perfect rainy day adventure. Whether you’re a local seeking hidden gems or a visitor exploring the area’s vibrant culture, White Rock’s thrift stores invite you to uncover one-of-a-kind finds while contributing to sustainable shopping practices. Don’t miss The Wilder Thrift Store, Superfluity Thrift Store or World Serve Thrift Shop.
Enjoy some self care
Seeking relaxation and rejuvenation? A blissful spa day should be your next rainy day stop! Let the cozy robes, calming music and skilled therapists work their magic. Treat yourself to indulgent therapies like hot stone massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. Top picks for local relaxation include J’Adore Laser & Spa, Pamper Me Day Spa and Natural Oasis Day Spa. Be sure to call ahead and book your spot.
Catch live music
In the mood for live music? Musicians take the stage at White Rock’s pubs and craft breweries every weekend. Whether you like blues, rock or folk there’s something for everyone and great food and drink to accompany it. And be sure to check the calendar at Blue Frog Studios for amazing concerts in Canada’s hottest live recording studio.
Watch the storm from a heated patio
One of the things we love about being near the ocean is the excitement of a good storm. When rain, fierce winds and the Pacific Ocean combine the results can be truly spectacular. White Rock’s waterfront restaurants are keeping patio season alive with heaters, cozy blankets and awnings so you can cozy up, enjoy a fabulous meal and watch Mother Nature at her best.
